<title>DAVE SPIKEY ' WORDS DONT COME EASY' SOLD OUT! - 10 Feb 12</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/523/DAVE-SPIKEY-WORDS-DONT-COME-EASY-SOLD-OUT</link>
<description>***Sorry this event has now sold out***
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;quot;I wish I hadn&amp;rsquo;t worn mascara&amp;rsquo;, my companion remarked as she wiped away the tears as Dave Spikey left the stage . Immediately likeable and with spot-on observations, there was certainly one word that came easy for the audience &amp;ndash; ENCORE!! MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS

Award-winning comedian Dave Spikey continues his critically acclaimed &amp;lsquo;WORDS DON&amp;rsquo;T COME EASY&amp;rsquo; stand-up tour this Spring. Of course anyone who has seen one of Dave&amp;rsquo;s live shows, or read his best-selling autobiography Under The Microscope, will know that words come very easily to the hugely popular comedian.

&amp;ldquo;Not only a very funny accomplished comedian, but one of the finest raconteurs around&amp;rdquo; Time Out

&amp;ldquo;Words don&amp;rsquo;t come easy, but with Dave Spikey, around the laughs certainly do&amp;rdquo; Loughborough Echo

Inspired by the fantastic audience response to his deconstruction of song lyrics in his 2008/09 &amp;ldquo;Best Medicine Tour&amp;rdquo;, and his fascination with the vagaries of the English language, this hilarious new show examines many of life&amp;rsquo;s situations where words really don&amp;rsquo;t come easy.
These include tongue-tied parents explaining the facts of life, ridiculous newspaper stories, magazine poems, adolescent chat-up lines, TV news speak and an extended selection of song lyrics that range from the lazy through surreal to the ridiculous. Throw in a &amp;ldquo;Champion the Wonder Horse&amp;rdquo; sing-a-long, an eccentric grannie and a sausage and bean bake and you have all the ingredients for a rich and spicy comedy casserole or as Dave would describe it &amp;ldquo;a sort of Lexicon-carne ............ sorry!&amp;rdquo;

&amp;ldquo;Down to earth genius&amp;rdquo; Liverpool Echo

The double British Comedy Award Winner, Royal Television Society winner and BAFTA nominee warmed the nation&amp;rsquo;s hearts as cabaret star Jerry St Clair in Phoenix Nights, which he co-wrote with Peter Kay and Neil Fitzmaurice.
Dave then went on to write 2 more comedy dramas for prime TV &amp;ndash; Dead Man Weds and Magnolia before starring as team captain in 8 out of 10 Cats for 4 seasons, and then hosting the new series of Bullseye. Most recently Dave has been a regular presenter of the TV Book Club on Channel 4.

<title>RIZZLE KICKS SOLD OUT! - 3 Mar 12</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/508/RIZZLE-KICKS-Plus-Support-Pepper</link>
<description>SOLD OUT!
Technically, Rizzle Kicks was founded in about 1996, when both members, in their miniature form, used to play together round Rizzle's auntie's house. It wasn't until eight years later that the pair reunited after both moving to Brighton and facing each other head-on in a Sunday league football match.
Four years later, they ended up going to the same college and one day Rizzle got Sylvester to 'Lalala' all over a track. They soon realised how nicely their styles fitted together. Rizzle was just finishing off his own mixtape, rapping over samples of some of their favourite artists (Gorillaz, Lily Allen, Arctic Monkeys etc) when they officially became Rizzle Kicks.

As a newly formed duo, they started to hustle for beats from local producers and started making their own music videos with a friend of theirs.

Having finally been able to get into a proper studio with some talented producers, Rizzle Kicks are now working on their album, a mixture of pop and hip hop incorporating the fun elements of the old school hip-hop era circa 1988-92.
&amp;nbsp;
PLUS SUPPORT: Pepper
&amp;quot;This time last year, i watched the Brits at home This year I was there, who'd've ever known?&amp;quot;
As a general rule, the last place you'd expect to find the future of British pop would be on a TV talent show. But from the moment it was announced that contestants on Sky 1's talent quest Must Be The Music would be performing their own songs, and that the judging panel would include E3 microphone ambassador Dizzee Rascal - alongside more traditional authority figures Jamie Cullum and Sharleen Spiteri - it was clear that a few surprises were on the cards. And as download releases of the original songs played by successive heat-winners crashed into the top 10 each week, the phony judging feuds and blatant control-freakery which are more familiar features of the TV talent-show landscape started to seem - for a few happy moments - like a thing of the past.

<title>THE XCERTS- RE-SCHEDULED DATE - 22 Mar 12</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/542/THE-XCERTS-RE-SCHEDULED-DATE-Support</link>
<description>**Tickets for the old date on the 20th Jan are still valid for this new date**
*RESCHEDULED SHOW: Please note all tickets previously bought will remain valid for this date.
The Xcerts are a three-piece from Aberdeen. Their debut album 'In The Cold Wind We Smile' was recorded in Wales and secured the band supports with Funeral For A Friend, My Vitriol, Fightstar, Feeder and Idlewild. It was greeted warmly by indie-pop fans and heavy rock fans alike, and a small fan base was building.
Labeling themselves as 'distorted pop', The Xcerts second album recorded in New York was rather more ferocious than the first, and they're happy to admit that not everyone's going to like it! But we think you should, so come and see them at 53 Degrees in 2012!!

<title>STIFF LITTLE FINGERS &amp; SPEAR OF DESTINY (DOUBLE BILL) - 23 Mar 12</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/537/The-Gig-Cartel-presents-STIFF-LITTLE-FINGERS</link>
<description>Jake Burns formed Stiff Little Fingers In 1977 after seeing the Clash play in his hometown Belfast. (The band&amp;rsquo;s name was taken from a 1977 Vibrators lyric &amp;quot;If it wasn&amp;rsquo;t for your stiff little fingers nobody would know you were dead&amp;quot;&amp;hellip;) Gordon Ogilvie, a local journalist, caught their live show and was impressed.
He encouraged them to write their own songs about what they knew best--life in Belfast. Jake came back twelve days later with &amp;quot;Suspect Device&amp;quot; and &amp;quot;Wasted Life&amp;quot;. In November of '77, with Ogilvie's help, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, with an initial pressing of only 350. Ogilvie sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night. The interest generated resulted in a distribution deal through Rough Trade in England.
These were the first of what became SLF's signature style: lyrics that meld the personal and political, music that combines the energy of punk with infectious hooks, and delivery that rings of honesty and commitment.The band released the classic Suspect Device and Alternative Ulster singles in 1978. A local fanzine named Alternative Ulster asked the band to write a song specially for a giveaway flexi-disc. Although the plans for the flexi fell through, &amp;quot;Alternative Ulster&amp;quot; became the first single released by Rough Trade in October of '78. Jake once introduced it as &amp;quot;a song about having nothing to do.&amp;quot; It became a punk rock classic. In 1979 they became the first band ever to hit the UK top 20 album charts on an independent label &amp;ndash; with their debut Inflammable Material.
Stiff Little Fingers, along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Skids, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers et al &amp;ndash; were at the forefront of the punk movement. They enjoyed six years as one of the biggest ticket draws in the UK and recorded three more studio albums &amp;ndash; Nobody&amp;rsquo;s Heroes (1980), Go For It (1982) and Now Then (1982) &amp;ndash; before Jake took a sabbatical to work as a BBC Radio One Producer.

Northern Soul and Motown music has continued to last the test of time. Northern Soul was born out of the mod era in the late 1960&amp;rsquo;s and came to real prominence in the 1970&amp;rsquo;s. The genre of music is known for its sometimes acrobatic dance moves and its famous &amp;ldquo;all-nighters&amp;rdquo;.

Preston&amp;rsquo;s Got Soul features one of Northern Soul&amp;rsquo;s main men Russ Winstanley. Russ founded the Wigan Casino in 1973 with over 4 million people passing through its doors. Today Russ hosts his own Northern Soul show on BBC Radio Lancashire on Saturdays 7pm-8pm and has been instrumental in the feature film &amp;ldquo;Soul Boy&amp;rdquo; along with compiling Telstar Records soul album &amp;ldquo;Soul Survivors&amp;rdquo;.

Russ Winstanley:

Over 4 million people passed through the venue which ran four nights per week until December 6th 1981. Both Wigan Casino and Russ Winstanley won many awards for best venue and best DJ. In 1997 Russ compiled Telstar Records northern soul album Soul Survivors which has become the biggest selling northern soul compilation ever grossing over &amp;pound;2m. In 1998 his book Wigan Casino Story joined the best sellers' list.
In 2008 Russ was featured in BBC TV's Soul Britannia and Dance Britannia and special Northern Soul features on BBC Radio 2 and 4. He has also toured with Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene and has also worked with Paul and Dean Parrish on the singles, 'Left Right and Centre' and 'It'll Never Be Over For Me'.
Russ is also music consultant to the highly successful Wigan Casino Play,' Once Upon A Time In Wigan' which ran in June at Bolton's Octagon Theatre and will be turned into a multi-million pound feature film in 2012

<title>GOMEZ - 24 Apr 12</title>

<description>**TICKETS ON SALE FRI 3RD FEB @ 9AM**
Gomez are an English indie rock band from Southport, comprising Ian Ball (vocals, guitar), Paul &amp;quot;Blackie&amp;quot; Blackburn (bass), Tom Gray (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Ben Ottewell (vocals, guitars) and Olly Peacock (drums, synths, computers). The band is distinguished for having three singers and four songwriters, employing traditional and electronic instruments. Their sound is versatile and evades typical music genres falling into blues, indie, alternative, rock, folk, psychedelic and experimental.

Their first album, Bring It On, won the Mercury Music Prize in 1998, giving them much media attention in the UK and throughout the world. Later awards came from the NME and Q Magazine along with a Brit Awards nomination.

Gomez began their career on Hut records (Virgin) signing in 1997. Just before their third album release In Our Gun Hut records was forced to downsize and on the following record, Split the Difference, Hut records was disbanded by Virgin/EMI records. The band were so dismayed by the music business and shocked by huge setbacks they kept experiencing, that they decided to go it alone and asked Virgin Records to let them go in 2004. The following year American label ATO signed the group, releasing their first live album Out West and their most successful record stateside How We Operate and A New Tide.

Currently the band members are split between the UK and US with Ian Ball residing in Los Angeles, Olly Peacock in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Paul Blackburn, Tom Gray and Ben Ottewell in Brighton, England.

Ian Ball released a solo record in 2007 entitled Who Goes There.

Ian Ball and Olly Peacock worked on the side project Operation Aloha. The experimental project designed by photographer Christopher Wray-McCann brought together 14 of his friends, living in tree houses making songs with whatever they could bring to the island of Maui, Hawaii.

Ian Ball, Ben Ottewell, Olly Peacock and Graham Pattison (engineer) created the Final Keep Me Up in 2009. They decided to record an album using only iPhones in the back lounge of the tour bus from Calais to K&amp;ouml;ln 2 May 2009. The album exists only in streaming form.

Ben Ottewell released a solo record in 2011 entitled &amp;quot;Shapes &amp;amp; Shadows&amp;quot;.
&amp;nbsp;Gomez is celebrating 15 years of touring with our Quincea&amp;ntilde;era Party. We are asking y'all to help choose the setlist for our upcoming concert in Preston. <title>THE SMITHS LTD (SMITHS TRIBUTE) - 28 Apr 12</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/532/THE-SMITHS-LTD</link>
<description>The Smiths Ltd was formed in February 2009 by Smiths obsessed Alex Gaskell (guitar), Andy Crook (Bass) and Keith Partington (drums).

We realised that we needed a superb front man and started an extensive 4-month search to find the perfect Morrissey. After a piece in the Manchester Evening News and a Channel M and Rock Radio interview, Johnny Turner heard our plea and came to audition. As obsessive as we were about getting the sound right and bearing an uncanny vocal and physical resemblance to Morrissey, Johnny completed The Smiths Ltd line-up in June 2009.

After 5 months of rehearsals we played our first gig in October 2009 to a rapturous audience and we haven&amp;rsquo;t looked back since.
Being the ONLY Smiths tribute band from and based in Manchester, UK we also have a unique selling point and an authenticity that is hard to beat. The band also uses the same guitars, bass, amps and drum kit live that the Smiths used on their very last tour.

It&amp;rsquo;s unlikely that the Smiths will ever play live again and certainly not with the passion and energy of that brief period between 1983 and 1987. The Smiths Ltd are the closest you will get to experiencing that live charge of Morrissey, Marr and Co on stage.
The Smiths Ltd &amp;ndash; Johnny, Alex, Andy and Keith.

ANNOUNCES 2ND UK HEADLINE TOUR
Following on from the overwhelming response to his sold out debut UK headline tour this Autumn, Wretch 32 has announced he will be embarking on a second UK headline tour in May 2012.
2011 has been an incredible year for Wretch 32, aka the MC&amp;rsquo;s MC. After being earmarked as the artist to watch at the top year by everyone from BBC, NME, Q magazine and MTV through to Tinie Tempah and Professor Green, he successfully went on to score three consecutive top five hits with the infectious &amp;lsquo;Traktor&amp;rsquo;, anthemic &amp;lsquo;Unorthodox&amp;rsquo; and number 1 single &amp;lsquo;Don&amp;rsquo;t Go&amp;rsquo;, all taken from his critically acclaimed, chart-topping album &amp;lsquo;Black and White&amp;rsquo;.
Regarded as one of the biggest music success stories of this year, Wretch 32 has gone from strength to strength: after gracing the stages of numerous festivals in the summer, (including Glastonbury, Wireless and V Festival), this autumn saw him embark on a nationwide headline sell out tour, perform on Later With Jools Holland, be appointed as an official Adidas ambassador for their Olympics 2012 campaign, and be nominated for 4 MOBO awards and a Q award.
Wretch 32&amp;rsquo;s summer 2012 tour will take him to areas in the UK that he didn&amp;rsquo;t cover on his previous run. Kicking off on 8th May 2012 in Portsmouth and ending on 19th May in Falmouth, the tour, which will be his biggest to date, will showcase new material from Wretch 32&amp;rsquo;s second studio album in the making, in addition to featuring favourites from &amp;lsquo;Black and White&amp;rsquo;.
Prior to next year&amp;rsquo;s tour, Wretch 32 will be gearing up to release the fourth cut from &amp;lsquo;Black and White&amp;rsquo;. Forthcoming single &amp;lsquo;Forgiveness&amp;rsquo;, produced by Labrinth and featuring vocals from upcoming singer Etta Bond, will be released by Level Recordings/ Ministry of Sound on 11th December.
