<title>ENTER SHIKARI - 18 Aug 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/307/ENTER-SHIKARI</link>
<description>TICKETS ON SALE 14TH JUNE @ 9AM
PLEASE NOTE // ENTER SHIKARI IS AN *ALL AGES* SHOW
Over 18s MUST bring I.D. in order to enter the bar area on the night.
Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
-------------
Enter Shikari have just announced two exclusive headline shows this summer, starting in Preston on Wed 18th August with a show intended to make up for the cancelled Winter Gardens gig earlier in the year. Tickets go on sale from all outlets on Monday 14th June, The King Blues will support.

Inspired by hardcore (in both the punk-rock and dance version of the word), drum'n'bass / dubstep, metal, premium strength lager and the state of the modern world, Enter Shikari make a music that tries its best to defy each of the tags people seem intent on forcing on it.
Their debut album 'Take To The Skies' was released on their own label - Ambush Reality - in March 2007, reaching the dizzy heights of #4 in the UK's official Album Charts and going on to sell over 100.000 copies in the UK.
&amp;nbsp;
Summer 2008 brought festival dates across Europe, playing a number of arena shows as guests of Linkin Park, and also appearing at the UK date of Linkin Park's 'Projekt Revolution' festival alongside JayZ, Pendulum and N*E*R*D. A UK autumn tour followed along with the release of a one-off single 'We Can Breathe In Space, They Just Don't Want Us To Escape' (a version of a track the band demoed in 2005 but never got around to ever finishing properly until the summer of 2008).
In mid-November 2008 the band started work recording tracks in a haunted mansion on an island near the south coast of England. Those tracks became the album 'Common Dreads', which was released in the UK in June 2009 and once again debuted in the top 10 of the UK Album Charts.
With the almighty King Blues in support this looks set to be a huge gig for 53 Degrees, advice is to buy tickets early

support comes from The King Blues
Tickets on sale online 9am Monday 14th June '10

<title>FUN LOVIN' CRIMINALS - 4 Sep 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/292/FUN-LOVIN-CRIMINALS</link>
<description>It&amp;rsquo;s only when you hear them again, you realise how much you missed them.
The multi platinum funk soul brothers, with 4 Top 10 albums to their name, return for the first time in five years, with the first classic, fantastic party album of the decade, featuring collaborations with Roots Manuva and Paul Kaye.
Huey, Fast and Frank have been missing in action for 5 years caught up in an acrimonious legal battle with their first manager who they fired in 2003. &amp;lsquo;Classic Fantastic&amp;rsquo; bursts out of that gloom like a glorious sunrise shooting infinite rays over a range of shadowy mountains, as spectacularly life-affirming as the last five years have been creatively death-defying.
Formed in New York in 1993, FLC gate-crashed the euphoric Britpop party in 1996 and brought along some unexpectedly unique swag, the generational classic album &amp;lsquo;Come Find Yourself&amp;rsquo; which gave us the cackling refrain &amp;ldquo;stick &amp;lsquo;em up punk, it's the Fun Lovin Criminal&amp;rdquo; and the Pulp Fiction&amp;ndash;sampling &amp;lsquo;Scooby Snacks&amp;rsquo;. The mid-to late 90s was a twirling martini cocktail of world travel, acclaim and phenomenal album sales.
Like The Killers and Kings of Leon today, the UK loved them first, the most; whip-smart story-tellers in smarter Savile Row suits, who told vibrant, satirical, comically tall tales of living large in the neon metropolis via music, drugs, crime and existential ennui. With a penchant for a beautiful &amp;ldquo;lady&amp;rdquo;.
During their five-year hiatus, the three brothers Crim found other creative outlets, most notably Huey, who is fast becoming one of the UK&amp;rsquo;s most charismatic TV and radio personalities. He hosts award-winning &amp;lsquo; The Huey Show&amp;rsquo; on BBC6 Radio in London, whilst on MTV he presents a boy racer series called &amp;lsquo;Slips&amp;rsquo;.
The trio, now all relocated to the UK, have left the cartoon New York netherworld behind for a colossal outdoors party, creating a self-produced summertime classic recorded in their London studio and featuring life-long &amp;ldquo;fourth member&amp;rdquo;, the Grammy-award winning hip-hop engineer Tim Latham (A Tribe Called Quest, De le Soul, KRS-One &amp;ndash; and Britney Spears). The songs tell stories, notes Huey, &amp;ldquo;about the human condition&amp;rdquo;; from the bonkers psychedelic party-rock of &amp;lsquo;Mars&amp;rsquo; (like OutKast never went away), to the sumptuous, summertime, trumpeting soul of &amp;lsquo;Classic Fantastic&amp;rsquo;. Summer shimmers on via the irresistible, piano-led, De la Soul-goes-Latino-carnival of &amp;lsquo; She Sings At The Sun&amp;rsquo;, there&amp;rsquo;s the comedy skit &amp;lsquo;Conversations With Our Attorney&amp;rsquo; featuring &amp;ldquo;Mike Strutter&amp;rdquo;, Paul Kaye&amp;rsquo;s outrageous MTV character. More bedlam-rock meltdown follows with &amp;lsquo; The Originals&amp;rsquo; before &amp;lsquo;Keep On Yellin&amp;rsquo;, featuring Roots Manuva.
A party album built in a psychological bunker; it&amp;rsquo;s a phenomenal testament to the power of unbound optimism. &amp;ldquo;There&amp;rsquo;s this thing called Noetics,&amp;rdquo; announces Huey.  &amp;ldquo;Which says if everybody thinks the same good thoughts, good things will happen.  Likewise, negative thoughts - it&amp;rsquo;s not rocket science.  And we all want the same thing, to be a Fun Lovin&amp;rsquo; Criminal.  You have to go through hell to get to heaven and now we&amp;rsquo;re finally out from under a lot of our problems, it&amp;rsquo;s a brand new day.  So let&amp;rsquo;s go out and do what we love to do.&amp;rdquo;

<title>ADRIAN EDMONDSON &amp; THE BAD SHEPHERDS - 10 Sep 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/274/ADRIAN-EDMONDSON-THE-BAD-SHEPHERDS</link>
<description>The Bad Shepherds play punk songs on folk instruments. Not as a gag, but because they really like the noise. They think the songs are better than people remember. They love folk instruments. It works.
They do songs by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers, The Jam, Sham 69, The Undertones, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, The Specials, Talking Heads, Squeeze and others, even Kraftwerk! Alright, they're not all punk, but they come from roughly the same era. They've mostly given the songs a kind of Celtic feel, and they've stuck in the odd reel and jig here and there. But occassionally they just thrash! They've always thought the excitement of a reel taking off is the nearest thing to the excitement of watching punk live in the 70's.
TheBad Shepherds are:
ADRIAN EDMONDSON (Vocals, &amp;lsquo;thrash mandolin&amp;rsquo;) Ade is best known as a comedian in The Young Ones, Bottom, and The Comic Strip Presents. Though he&amp;rsquo;s no stranger to the music world having played the Monsters of Rock and Reading Festivals with Bad News, the Hootenanny with Jools Holland, Hyde Park with The Who, and he&amp;rsquo;s toured with The Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band. He&amp;rsquo;s also had a No 1 single with Cliff Richard! And as a director he made lots of music videos in the 80&amp;rsquo;s for the likes of The Pogues, Squeeze, Elvis Costello and 10,000 Maniacs.
TROY DONOCKLEY (Uillean pipes, cittern, whistles, vocals) Troy has built up a formidable reputation as both a Composer/Arranger/ Musician/Performer and as a leading virtuoso of the Uilleann Pipes. He&amp;rsquo;s released three critically acclaimed solo albums, is a member of Iona, and also finds time to record and tour with the likes of Maddy Prior (he has co-produced four albums), Barbara Dickson (produced two albums) Maire Brennan (Clannad), Midge Ure, Nightwish, Lesley Garrett , Roy Harper, Status Quo, Alan Stivell, Del Amitri and many more&amp;hellip;
ANDY DINAN (Fiddle) Andy won the All-Ireland Fiddle Championship&amp;hellip; twice. He&amp;rsquo;s best known for playing with Toss the Feathers and Mike McGoldrick, but he&amp;rsquo;s also supported Dervish, Lunasa, Capercaillie and solo artists Martin Hayes and Liz Carroll. He recently performed at the Armagh Pipers club Festival with Mike and Ian Fletcher with a new project involving Portugese, Brazilian and Irish music.

<title>PENDULUM DJ SET &amp; MC VERSE - 17 Sep 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/270/PENDULUM-DJ-SET-MC-VERSE</link>
<description>&amp;nbsp;PENDULUM&amp;nbsp;DJ&amp;nbsp;SET&amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;&amp;nbsp;MC&amp;nbsp;VERSE
Pendulum have been dominating dancefloors worldwide for five years now, and when I say dominating, I mean total domination. From their drum &amp;amp; bass roots Pendulum have exploded into almost every arena; rock clubs, students unions, town centre nightclubs, anywhere in any town, Pendulum&amp;rsquo;s distinctive singles will bring even the most tepid dancefloor to the boil the instant that beat kicks in.
On 17th September they&amp;rsquo;ll be delivering their ground shaking DJ set to 53 Degrees.
Pendulum began as a drum &amp;amp; bass act in their native Australia in 2002, their sound has developed more of a rocky edge over the recent years but still keeping the dance feel. Their 2008 album In Silico made Pendulum the most successful drum &amp;amp; bass act of all time. Their sound is typically heavy beats accompanied by low basslines, overlaid with synthesized leads and rock riffs. A new album, Immersion has been announced for release in May 2010 as they blitz the UK with a full run of live shows and DJ sets.

LINE-UP INFO...
GRAEME PARK (Hacienda Legend)
Graeme Park: 15 years on the radio, 25 years on the decks.
The story of DJ Graeme Park really mirrors the story of the evolution of dance music and club culture itself. Graeme found himself working in a Nottingham record shop called Select-A-Disc in the early 1980s, when the very first house records began to filter through from Chicago, Detroit and New York. When the shop's owner also opened a nightclub, it was only natural he should turn to Graeme to select the discs. Determined to showcase this new style of music, his reputation as a house pioneer soon brought him to the attention of Mike Pickering at the Hacienda in Manchester, who asked him to cover for him whilst he went on holiday in 1988. Simply put, there was no-one else in the country who could do the job. The Summer of Love followed, and Parky quickly became one of the biggest names on the emerging dance scene. Aside from his eight-year residency at the Hac, he was the first British DJ to play places like Australia, South America, the USA, Asia and beyond as well as producing and remixing tracks for the dancefloor.
The Hacienda was a club without a purpose until house music filled its cathedral-sized dimensions. It undeniably defined Graeme as a DJ, but in 2010, that can only be seen as one chapter in an on-going tale: 'Yeah it was a very big chapter. I guess the first was when I discovered I could DJ and discovered house music from the US. The Hacienda was chapter 2 and chapter 3 was when it re-opened after closing for a couple of months in 1992. Chapter 4 was when it closed not long after I left and I played all around the world. I suppose Chapter 5 is where we are now.'
As far as Graeme's concerned, things are as fab as ever. But where is dance music and club culture headed? Well, who better to ask directions than the man who wrote the disco A-Z? 'I started doing it purely by accident,' he details. 'And then realised I was actually pretty good at it. But I never thought I'd end up doing it for over 25 years. And I see no need to stop at the moment. I still love playing fantastic tunes in clubs and people still want me to do it too.'
And where we are now is a very interesting place to be. Aside from all the regular gigs and many productions under various guises, Graeme has been celebrating his 25th Anniversary with a series of special nights all over the UK and overseas playing a selection of classic house tunes as well as new and current tunes too. Although keen not to be bracketed as a 'classics' DJ, he couldn't let the occasion of his 25th anniversary go by without delving into the thousands upon thousands of tunes he has collected on vinyl over the years: 'House music has made people channel their tastes, so I went back to my roots and pulled out some forgotten classics,' he grins, still in love with process of mining those rich seams of vinyl.
Also celebrating over 15 years on the radio having worked for Kiss, Galaxy, Key 103, Radio City, Juice FM, Forth One and more, Parky has just started a brand new Saturday night show on Imagine FM which covers South Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire occupying the 6pm-9pm slot he has traditionally occupied on the North West&amp;rsquo;s FM dial for many years. The show is your perfect soundtrack to Saturday and helps get you in the mood for whatever you&amp;rsquo;re planning on doing on a Saturday night. Graeme years of experience help him understand the specialist skills required by a radio DJ: 'A lot of radio shows or DJs just play the same big tunes. You can't simply pretend you're in a club, you have to talk to the audience and put your personality across without sounding like an idiot.' His weekly Graeme Park Radio Show airs on a number of radio stations both in the UK and overseas and brings in a big audience with his mix of new and older tunes mixed together like only he knows how. You can listen to the show anytime you like at http://www.mixcloud.com/graemepark and Graeme has just been voted at 14 in the Mixcloud Best Of 2009 poll too.
Keeping ahead of the game, Graeme has also just launched his brand new iPhone app which you can download from the iTunes store for free. It keeps you up to date with what he&amp;rsquo;s playing and where while you&amp;rsquo;re on the move and is proving extremely popular since it&amp;rsquo;s launch in March 2010. And look out for his latest compilation CD, 21 Years of Gio Goi, which is due out in the summer of 2010 and is released in association with the popular Manchester clothing brand and features classic club tunes from the past 21 years.
Whether through his sets, his radio shows or simply by getting to know that audience, Graeme has spent the last 25 years getting his jocular personality across. He was there before it all started, he was at the forefront of the dance scene when it was at its zenith and he's still there, still rocking it, years later- longer than some of the people on the dancefloor have been on the planet! And the best thing is he still loves it, still loves the music and still loves to play it for people to dance to.
'Yeah, for my entire career I've been finding good tunes that I want other people to hear. The reason I keep doing it is simple- it's my mission in life to let people hear good music.'
The Hacienda is now an apartment building (the developers asked Parky to DJ at the launch; he politely declined). At the back of the building there is a time-line, carved into steel, detailing the history of the club from Madonna's early performance to its closure. And there's Graeme's name not once, but twice, carved into the metal for time immemorial. What other DJs (what other venues?) have had that significance in clubland?

MIKE &amp;quot;THE QUADFATHER&amp;quot; KNOWLER (Quadrant Park, The State, Hard Dock, LIFE@ Legend)
Mike Knowler.
The year: 1990. The city: Liverpool. The hottest club in town was Quadrant Park. Mike Knowler was the DJ, and this is his story.
Mike&amp;rsquo;s career started in 1969 in the Starlight Room at Southport&amp;rsquo;s Kingsway Casino. Resident DJ Baby Bob Stewart, about to start at Radio Luxembourg, had offered Mike his job out of the blue. Music policy at the Kingsway was rare soul and R &amp;lsquo;n&amp;rsquo; B, which suited Mike&amp;rsquo;s record collection just fine. He was only 17, and he shared the spot with Ormskirk DJ Phil Sawyer.
Two years later, music policy at the Kingsway became more mainstream. Mike moved to a more intimate Southport venue, the Nest Club, owned by local bookie Alec Morris. At the time Mike had changed his musical allegiance to street funk. He was the first Southport DJ to play James Brown, Bobby Byrd and the JBs. Mike only lasted a few months at the Nest. Wages were meagre and he now had a wife to support.
In 1970 Mike met Dave Kay who, along with Jeff Hartley, ran a successful mobile disco road show. It was called &amp;ldquo;Radio Doom Good Guys&amp;rdquo;, and Mike wanted a piece of the action. Mike and Phil Sawyer started off at Radio Doom as Northern Soul dancers! Then Jeff quit, and Mike took over as DJ in 1972. The job at Radio Doom lasted six years.
In 1978 Mike joined Open Eye, a community communications and media project. He designed and built an eight-track recording studio, and established two record labels: Zoo Records and Open Eye Records. He was a pioneer of the new Merseybeat, working with bands like Big in Japan, Dead or Alive, OMD, the Teardrop Explodes and Echo &amp;amp; the Bunnymen. Both the studio and the record labels were a great hit locally. While at Open Eye Mike was studying for an HNC at Preston Poly. He became social secretary for the Students&amp;rsquo; Union, and spent three years as a student DJ and events organiser. In 1981, with the HNC finished, Mike left Open Eye to study full-time at Liverpool University. Leaving Open Eye was a wrench, but he hadn&amp;rsquo;t had a hit record!
After leaving Preston Mike carried on as a DJ at the Poly. At a Theatre of Hate gig he met Andy Carroll, a Southport DJ. Andy invited Mike to join him as a DJ at a club in Southport called Sandbaggers. They worked together from 1982 to 84, playing stuff like the Cure, New Order, Southern Death Cult, Kraftwerk, the Clash and A Certain Ratio. Mike also played one gig for the Liverpool Uni Guild of Students: the 1984 Summer Ball with Curtis Mayfield.
Mike graduated in July 1984. He then took up residency at the Cavern &amp;ndash; an exact replica of the club where the Beatles made their name. He did lunchtime sessions six days a week, with fresh local talent, just as Bob Wooler did in the early sixties. The sessions were a runaway success. Then, later in 1984, Mike became resident DJ at the State Ballroom. Mike and his old mate Andy Carroll played music such as Talking Heads, Simple Minds, U2, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and New Order.
1988 saw the second Summer of Love. At that time Mike and Andy met up with James Barton, later of Cream fame. James wanted them to DJ at Liverpool&amp;rsquo;s first regular acid house event. Luckily Mike and Andy had been turned on to house after separate trips to New York&amp;rsquo;s New Music Seminar. Monday nights (styled &amp;ldquo;Daisy&amp;rdquo;) were such a hit that the State moved over to house music exclusively, every night, until it was forced to close in 1989. The indie kids had been ousted!
After a brief stint at the Twilight Zone in Duke Street, the stage was set for Quadrant Park in Bootle. Mike first played at the Quad at a Christmas dance for the students of Hugh Baird College. In 1990 he became resident DJ for the three main nights at the Quad, with Andy Carroll sharing on Saturdays. The end of the year saw the start of the legendary Allnighters, when James Barton and John Kelly joined the team. The Quad Allnighter is fondly remembered by Scouse clubbers as the biggest thing to happen on their scene. And it was legal! The music was proper house, as opposed to techno or hardcore. A young man tragically died at the Quad, but that wasn&amp;rsquo;t why the club closed. Door prices went up, security went down and the venue needed a makeover. Punters voted with their feet and the house scene moved elsewhere. By 1992 the Quad was no more.
Also in 1990 Mike had been contacted by Dave Graham, resident DJ at the Drome in Birkenhead. Dave wanted to change the music policy to house, so he asked Mike to help out on Friday nights. For part of 1991 Mike took a break from the Quad and did his stuff at the Drome on Fridays. The night was called &amp;ldquo;Life&amp;rdquo; and it moved on to Bowlers at Trafford Park.
In 1991 Mike was approached by club promoters Nicki Dee and Billy Gillbank. They wanted him to play Friday nights at a new venue, the Hard Dock Caf&amp;eacute;. At the time the Quad was feeling the heat from other places like Club 051 and the Academy. So Mike started at the Hard Dock playing alongside Alan James. Following the demise of the Quad, Mike became main resident DJ at the Hard Dock on Fridays and Saturdays. Music policy was techno and hardcore, with guest appearances from artists like Carl Cox and Groove Rider. Feeling that such music had had its day, Mike left the Hard Dock in 1994.
He was also appearing as a guest DJ at a number of venues. The most noteworthy was the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool, at concerts promoted by James Barton and Andy Carroll. These concerts featured artists such as Adamski, Katherine E, K Klass, the Prodigy, N Joi and Quadrophonia. Mike also played at Cleo&amp;rsquo;s in Wolverhampton, alongside Laurent Garnier; the Inn on the Park on Jersey with Robbie Edwards and Eric Powell; and Sheffield Poly with John Peel.
An important part of Mike&amp;rsquo;s career was regular guest appearances at Old Skool / Anthem / Retro nights across the North West. The first was Anthem City, in 1993, at Club 051. Other appearances included: &amp;ldquo;Ultimate Revival&amp;rdquo; at Life in Trafford Park; &amp;ldquo;Passion&amp;rdquo; at Maximes in Wigan; &amp;ldquo;Best of British&amp;rdquo; at the Buzz Club in Liverpool; &amp;ldquo;Anthem Mania&amp;rdquo; at the Drome; and the &amp;ldquo;Anthem City Tour&amp;rdquo; at Calistos in Huddersfield. Recent retro appearances, in 2003-05, have been for &amp;ldquo;HayzyDays&amp;rdquo; nights at Club Zanzibar in Liverpool.
In 1995 Mike moved into the pre-club bar scene. He started an 18-month residency at the Gallery Bar in Liverpool&amp;rsquo;s Concert Square. The bar was owned by Peter Lee of Metro Bar fame. Mike now had an excellent chance to play upfront American-import house: the kind of stuff played at Back to Basics in Leeds and Ministry of Sound in London. For the first time he was playing for an audience who were listening, not dancing! Without the need to drive the dance floor, Mike could be more experimental. At the time new house music was breaking through built upon themes from soul, funk, disco and jazz. Mike left the Gallery when he heard rumours that the bar was to be sold.
He moved to Southport to work for Craig Carloss at a new bar called the Glasshouse. He was working four or five nights a week. Thursday was 1970s funk and disco; Friday and Saturday were upfront US-import house; and Sunday was &amp;ldquo;Back to the Old Skool&amp;rdquo; house anthems. After a dispute with the owner Mike moved to Bar None, Southport&amp;rsquo;s newest trendy bar. Fridays featured US house; Thursdays featured soul, funk, disco and jazz.
In 1999 Mike Knowler retired as a full-time DJ, after a career spanning 30 years. He can truly be called &amp;ldquo;the godfather or is it the Quadfather of Liverpool house music&amp;rdquo;.

MATT BELL (Zone Legend/Empire/Angels/Northern Project)
DJ Matt Bell, this Zone Legend started an interest in DJing whilst watching Djs at Blackburn raves back in 1988. Started putting on illegal parties in Preston and then moved onto clubs in 1990 which was Adam n eves in Blackpool. After this shut down, I played regularly at Love Shack on Fridays and then got the break at ZOne. I was a resident there and the Empire at Morecambe until around 1995 when I left and started a residency at Feel in Preston and Angels in Burnley where I played with a whole host of superstar DJs such as Sasha, Carl Cox, Tongy to name but a few. I've also done Bowlers, Fun at Birmingham and Ibiza plus loads of other events, some memorable, some not so..
Although I love new music, Old skool is where its at for me. Matt was gonna hang his headphones up in September 2010 due to work commitiments, but we are glad to say Matt is now able to become a resident Dj for the Northern Project

With a list of places played as long as your arm and he has played and rocked at some of the big reunions in 2010 e.g. ZONE, WIGAN PIER, BOWLERS, his experience together with his enthusiasm will pair together giving us an outstanding show of talent that will get us rocking to the old happy Zone beat we loved. <title>STIFF LITTLE FINGERS - 12 Oct 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/330/STIFF-LITTLE-FINGERS</link>
<description>Formed in Northern Ireland in 1977, at the height of the troubles by Jake Burns, Henry Cluney, Brian Faloon and Ali McMordie gained recognition from Radio 1 legend John Peel with their first single self-released on their own Rigid Digits label before being picked up by Rough trade for a full release &amp;lsquo;Alternative Ulster&amp;rsquo; and in 1979 the album &amp;lsquo;Inflammable Material which sold over 100,000 copies and hit number 17 in the UK charts.
3 more albums in the next three years, and a heavy touring schedule, increased the bands notoriety just as it increased the pressures upon the members and problems within the band, causing them to first lose original drummer Brian Faloon and then just two years later his replacement Jim Reilly, before finally Jake Burns announced a split in 1983.
Thankfully this split only lasted 5 years before the band decided to try a few reunion gigs around Christmas 1987, partly they said as an excuse to head home to Belfast and visit their parents for the holiday. Fan response was incredible and Stiff Little Fingers found themselves playing sell out shows in far bigger venues that they ever had during their original touring. The original fans had stayed rigidly loyal and were now joined by a new generation of new supporters. Since then the band haven&amp;rsquo;t stopped and have established themselves as a firm live favourite wherever they go.
Current line-up features ever present frontman Jake Burns and original bass player Ali McCordie who finally returned to the band in 2006 after a fifteen year absence. Also playing will be long-term guitarist Ian McCallum and drummer Steve Grantley. Tickets are &amp;pound;16advance and are on sale now.
Stiff Little Fingers will be playing 53 Degrees, Preston on Tuesday 12th October 2010

<title>PLAN B - 18 Oct 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/297/PLAN-B</link>
<description>SOLD&amp;nbsp;OUT
We are absolutely over the moon to announce that Plan B will be playing live at 53 Degrees this October!
Currently with a number one album in the charts, Plan B is no ordinary MC. He's as likely to be playing indie venues or folk clubs as he is hip hop jams or raves or R&amp;amp;B gigs. He can spit rhymes and hold his own against any MC or rapper, but can then suddenly switch into a delicate, sweet white soul croon that would shame any boyband member. He accompanies himself on an acoustic guitar, playing in a curiously folksy, fingerpicking style. But the killer punch is the lyrics - bleak, cinematic, X-rated urban poetry laced with a mordant wit and a strong dose of pathos.

<title>THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE - 20 Oct 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/319/THE-BIRTHDAY-MASSACRE</link>
<description>The Birthday Massacre is from Toronto, Canada. Combining their interests in various musical and artistic styles, the band has successfully accumulated an impressive international fan base, press accolades, and defied categorization with their unique sound and visuals.
The band was formed in 1999 and independently produced and recorded their first two albums, Nothing and Nowhere and Violet. Through both of these high-demand releases, as well as their highly acclaimed and beautifully atmospheric website, the band obtained a large and loyal fan base throughout the world. Due to their independent success, in 2005 they were approached by European record label Repo Records (followed shortly by Metropolis Records in North America) and the band began its steady climb to reaching a much wider audience with the 2007 release of the acclaimed and wildly popular Walking With Strangers.
In the last few years, the band has been performing internationally, traveling extensively across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Australia, the U.K. and Europe. They have become renowned for their high-energy live performances, drawing large, mixed crowds through their appeal to fans of a surprisingly wide range of genres. Equally comfortable playing intimate venues as they are on a festival stage, the band's highly-praised performances will continue into the next year as they continue touring.
Currently, the band is in the mastering stage of their fourth full-length album, and preparing for both headlining shows and shows with OTEP in the July/Aug of 2010. They will also be returning to Europe and the U.K. in the Autumn, including an exclusive show at 53 Degrees.

<title>DJ YODA - 13 Nov 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/327/DJ-YODA</link>
<description>&amp;ldquo;DJ Yoda was instrumental in creating the bootleg &amp;lsquo;cut-up&amp;rsquo; mixing style. Whilst most other &amp;lsquo;superstar&amp;rsquo; DJ&amp;rsquo;s were macho-postulating and demanding huge fees, Yoda was doing it for laughs... Nearly a decade later, in an era of playlist-skipping and remixes of bootlegs of bootlegs, he&amp;rsquo;s more relevant than ever.&amp;rdquo;
XYZ Magazine, February 2010

Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut &amp;amp; Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him &amp;ldquo;one of the ten DJs to see before you die&amp;rdquo;, whilst Hip Hop Connection voted him &amp;ldquo;one of the top three DJs in the world&amp;rdquo;.

From hip-hop beginnings, DJ Yoda has evolved in the past ten years, using his turntable skills and diverse influences as varied as Funk, B-more, Kuduro, Reggae, Drum &amp;lsquo;n&amp;rsquo; Bass and even Big Band Swing and Country &amp;amp; Western to make unashamed party music. He can be found cutting the Indiana Jones theme with woofer-worrying Dubstep or The Muppet Theme with MIA. His shows are peppered with Film, TV and YouTube samples and visuals that lift his sets to new and stratospheric heights.

Trail-blazing into the world of the audio-visual he pioneered a new artform, using cutting edge technology that he has been instrumental in developing, to scratch and mix visuals on top of his DJ sets in the clubs. Starting out by re-scoring both &amp;lsquo; The Goonies&amp;rsquo; and &amp;lsquo;Ferris Bueller&amp;rsquo;s Day Off&amp;rsquo; on the festival circuit in 2003 and 2004, DJ Yoda went on to transform the average night out into a fusion of clubbing and the movies. His recent AV tours have included &amp;ldquo;DJ Yoda Goes To The Movies&amp;rdquo;, &amp;ldquo;Magic Cinema Show&amp;rdquo; and &amp;ldquo;National Video Vacation&amp;rdquo;.

DJ Yoda recently released the fourth and fifth instalments of the &amp;lsquo; How To Cut and Paste&amp;rsquo; mix CD series, moving even further away from the hip-hop template into un-chartered musical territory. Blowing the barn doors off for a wild hayride into the heart of Country &amp;amp; Western, Vol. 4 was a truly surprising and groundbreaking edition, whilst &amp;lsquo; The &amp;lsquo;30&amp;rsquo;s Edition&amp;rsquo; (Vol. 5) featured the kings of swing retooled with raw 21st Century beats. It scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in iDJ magazine, and has thrown the doors wide open for the series&amp;rsquo; future.

For his debut album &amp;lsquo; The Amazing Adventures Of DJ Yoda&amp;rsquo;, released to critical acclaim in 2006, he produced tracks with Biz Markie, 2005 MOBO-winner Sway, Princess Superstar, Jungle Brothers, MC Paul Barman, and a host of other vocalists. He has also made music for Film, TV and Advertising and is currently finishing a new artist album.
DJ Yoda will be playing 53 Degrees, Preston on Saturday 13th November 2010

<title>RED RIBBON CABARET - PLAYING IT STRAIGHT - 26 Nov 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/332/RED-RIBBON-CABARET-PLAYING-IT-STRAIGHT</link>
<description>Red Ribbon Cabaret : Playing it Straight
A Charity Event for Local Charities supporting those infected/affected by HIV/AIDS
The Red Ribbon Cabaret returns for another legendary extravaganza of comedy, dance, song and mayhem!
The Red Ribbon Cabaret was first conceived in Blackburn as 'Aid for AIDS' in 1992, in response to a friend of the original event organiser being diagnosed HIV positive. Tony Abbott was from Blackburn, and the trust fund that was initiated in his name was to support people living with HIV in the Blackburn area. Through the original 'Aid for AIDS' event and subsequent annual Red Ribbon Balls, over &amp;pound;11,000 was raised for the trust in Tonys name.
As the annual event gained reputation and momentum, the Red Ribbon Cabaret moved to Preston in 1997. The event continued to raise much needed money for a trust fund established in memory of a Preston man, Jim Bezer, who died of an AIDS related illness. Jim himself had been an HIV/AIDS activist for many years, and the memorial fund to help local people affected by HIV was felt to be a fitting tribute following his death.
The show has attracted many acts over the years- on the brink of superstardom, Take That performed as part of the show in 1993. Many local artists have also performed, including the infamous drag troupe and firm fixture at the event 'Linda and the Launderettes'.
Comedienne Amy Lamee hosted the show in 2001, and the event also regularly features the talents of Blackburn Dance and Performing Arts Centre. Acclaimed comedian Jonathon Mayor has compered the show in recent years and has established himself as an audience favourite.
With a host of acts, old and new busy preparing for Red Ribbon Cabaret 2010 the show is set to be another triumph.

<title>THE WEDDING PRESENT - BIZARRO ANNIVERSARY TOUR - 3 Dec 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/314/THE-WEDDING-PRESENT-BIZARRO-ANNIVERSARY-TOUR</link>
<description>The Wedding Present have had eighteen UK Top 40 hit singles&amp;hellip; not bad for a band that has, from its inception, stubbornly refused to play the record industry&amp;rsquo;s game. That was back in 1985 when David Lewis Gedge boarded a National Express coach in London with 500 records packed into a pair of his mother&amp;rsquo;s suitcases. In this fashion, the debut single GO OUT AND GET &amp;rsquo;EM BOY! was collected from the pressing plant, delivered to the distribution company, and The Wedding Present was born. That pioneering spirit has been at the core of the band&amp;rsquo;s philosophy ever since. From GEORGE BEST, &amp;quot;an unmitigated delight&amp;quot; [NME], the first full-length release on their own Reception Records onwards, the band has charted an appealing, if often eccentric, course of its very own.

With the early releases on their own label The Wedding Present acquired a reputation for bittersweet, breathtakingly honest love songs immersed in whirlwind guitars, so it was extraordinary that UKRAINSKI VISTUPI V JOHNA PEELA, with the band exploring traditional Eastern European folk music, should be the major label debut on RCA. &amp;ldquo;(They) carry off what is basically a bold experiment with verve&amp;rdquo; [NME]. However, this was soon followed by the more traditionally incendiary BIZARRO, &amp;ldquo;simply unbeatable&amp;rdquo; [Melody Maker] which featured their first hit single KENNEDY. Sounds Magazine said: &amp;ldquo;it&amp;rsquo;s their major label debut, but it&amp;rsquo;s a transition they&amp;rsquo;ve mastered beautifully&amp;rdquo;.
The next step, made with characteristically twisted Wedding Present logic, was to enlist noise-mongering [and, at that point, relatively unknown] sound engineer Steve Albini&amp;rsquo;s aid at a time when everyone else was releasing &amp;lsquo;Madchester&amp;rsquo; dance mixes. The resulting SEAMONSTERS, recorded in the snowy wilds of Minnesota in just 11 days, suggested a more thoughtful Wedding Present. The Guardian newspaper noted that: &amp;quot;Albini has given The Wedding Present considerable weight, with Gedge&amp;rsquo;s voice trickling between banks of scowling guitars&amp;quot;. Indeed, the singing ranged from sensual whispering to feverish screams.
The band came up with their next intriguing idea in 1992. By the end of December, The Wedding Present had released twelve singles, one per month, equalled Elvis Presley&amp;rsquo;s 35 year old record for &amp;quot;most hits in one year&amp;quot;, rekindled everyone&amp;rsquo;s interest in that ultimate pop format, the 7&amp;quot; and led the NME to describe the band as &amp;quot;casually revolutionary and underhandedly unique&amp;quot;. A gang of impressive names, including Ian Broudie from The Lightning Seeds and legendary Rolling Stones producer Jimmy Miller collaborated on the industry-challenging project, ultimately to be compiled on the two HIT PARADE albums and awarded &amp;quot;record of the week&amp;quot; by Tony Parsons in The Daily Telegraph.
WATUSI, produced by Steve Fisk (a prime mover in the celebrated avant-garde scene of Seattle), whisked the band off into another new area with its lo-fi pop, three-part a capella harmonies and Waikiki-ready surf strains. This &amp;ldquo;strong, multifaceted album&amp;rdquo; [Select], sprinkled with 60s and 70s pastiches, was described by some critics as their most varied and dynamic to date. &amp;ldquo;Watusi is (their) &amp;lsquo;White Album&amp;rsquo;, a late period re-assessment of their sound that finds them doing what they do best&amp;rdquo; [Melody Maker].
In 1995, the band released yet another 7&amp;quot; single, SUCKER, and completed a British tour with two drummers. Although the record sold several thousand copies and reached No.3 in The Festive 50 (the late BBC DJ John Peel&amp;rsquo;s end of year listeners&amp;rsquo; poll) you won&amp;rsquo;t see it in any other charts, because, typically, it was only available at the concerts or by mail order.
The band returned to a more traditional form of record distribution with the car themed MINI, &amp;quot;a gem of a record&amp;quot; [Melody Maker] in which Gedge cloaked his tales of love, lust and infidelity with automobile symbolism in what can only be described as a concept album. To commemorate this release, the band played at the BBC&amp;rsquo;s Sound City Event, which was held that year in Leeds, the group&amp;rsquo;s home town. During the concert, the winner of a prize draw was announced, and a lucky Wedding Present fan became the owner of a real life classic Austin Mini motorcar provided (and delivered!) by the band.
For the next full length LP, the group decided to apply a decade&amp;rsquo;s worth of studio experience and produce the record themselves. Thus, the Top 40 album SATURNALIA was released by Cooking Vinyl to a flurry of critical approval. The NME exclaimed that &amp;quot;David Gedge has just written one of the best pop albums of the year&amp;quot; while The Melody Maker noted that in the new recordings, which were completed in the London studios belonging to The Cocteau Twins, you could &amp;quot;hear an experimentalism that would send half of New York back to the lab&amp;quot;.
It was at this point in 1997 that Gedge started work on a new project called CINERAMA. A fittingly titled outfit, Cinerama indulged Gedge&amp;rsquo;s love of film music from John Barry to Blaxploitation via Ennio Morricone. Cinerama started life as a duo, Gedge and his girlfriend Sally Murrell, together with a shifting line-up of collaborators. 1998&amp;rsquo;s VA VA VOOM &amp;ldquo;turbo-driven melodies and bittersweet vignettes taking in everything from John Barry to the Zombies&amp;rdquo; [The Times] featured The Church&amp;rsquo;s Marty Wilson-Piper and Emma Pollock from The Delgados. Then, in 1999, Gedge rescued the rhythm section of the disbanded Goya Dress (Terry de Castro and Simon Pearson) and combined them with Wedding Present guitarist Simon Cleave. From 2000 the line-up remained relatively steady, apart from Finnish drummer Kari Paavola later replacing Pearson and Murrell&amp;rsquo;s eventual retirement from live performance.
Surely on pace to rival the abundant shelf filling of The Wedding Present, Cinerama released a clutch of singles in support of their debut LP, as well as a number prior to 2000&amp;rsquo;s Steve Albini-recorded DISCO VOLANTE &amp;ldquo;dangerously, seductively sweet&amp;rdquo; [Melody Maker]. Notable were the heart-rending SUPERMAN (complete with alternative Spanish take) and the six and a half minute epic HEALTH AND EFFICIENCY (also available in French!).
The third Cinerama studio album, TORINO (released in 2002), was much darker than the first two, with Gedge returning to a guitar driven sound and deciding to write predominantly about infidelity. &amp;ldquo;Cinerama are escaping the shadow of Gedge&amp;rsquo;s illustrious indie-legend past. Torino is a giant beast of adulterous lyrical fantasies, cult soundtrack flourishes and the screams of Albini-engineered guitars&amp;rdquo; [Uncut].
At the end of 2002, Gedge and Murrell unexpectedly split up, and he decided to leave Leeds, his home for the preceding twenty-four years, and move to Seattle in the USA. Following the end of this fourteen-year relationship, Gedge began writing a collection of songs apparently influenced by his despair over the split. TAKE FOUNTAIN, the resultant album, was recorded in Seattle by Steve Fisk [who also produced WATUSI, The Wedding Present&amp;rsquo;s 1994 LP] and released, perhaps ironically, on St. Valentine&amp;rsquo;s Day 2005. This saw Gedge reviving The Wedding Present name for the first album since 1996&amp;rsquo;s SATURNALIA to a torrent of critical acclaim. TAKE FOUNTAIN &amp;ldquo;is as eloquent an emotional discourse as he has mustered. Gedge has never before assimilated harsh rock textures to orchestral arrangements with such power.&amp;rdquo; [Mojo]. &amp;ldquo;Gedge hasn&amp;rsquo;t sounded this belligerently broken-hearted since 1987&amp;rsquo;s MY FAVOURITE DRESS&amp;rdquo; [Uncut]. &amp;ldquo;Fans have long since recognised Gedge as more poet than pop star. Like Byron without the marsh fever, TAKE FOUNTAIN confirms his status as an extraordinary songwriter&amp;rdquo; [The Times].
In the wake of TAKE FOUNTAIN&amp;rsquo;s success, and after almost an eight-year hiatus, The Wedding Present set out on a mammoth twenty month concert tour of Europe and North America which included most of the major festivals and ended in November 2006. In December of that year Gedge relocated to Hollywood, California, where he is currently living and writing but ventured back across the Atlantic in October 2007 when The Wedding Present performed the GEORGE BEST album live as part of a George Best &amp;ldquo;Twentieth Anniversary&amp;rdquo; Tour of Europe. Following that tour the band reassembled in at Steve Albini&amp;rsquo;s Electrical Audio studio in Chicago to record &amp;ldquo;El Rey&amp;rdquo;.

<title>FRANK TURNER - 3 Dec 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/312/FRANK-TURNER</link>
<description>In 2005 Frank Turner stopped fronting post-hardcore band Million Dead and starting performing solo, with an acoustic guitar and a set of sublimely worded folk-punk songs. In doing this he set himself on a one way path to becoming a global phenomenon.
The phrase &amp;ldquo; You have to listen to Frank Turner&amp;rdquo; became almost a mantra in the UK and US alike amongst everyone from hardcore punk fans to MySpace singer/songwriter seekers. Now with critical acclaim across the board and three full length albums under his belt Frank has assembled himself a band and is continuing his relentless touring, bringing him to his biggest 53 Degrees show yet this December.
Frank paid his dues on the road, often alone, for three years as he slowly built up a passionate support before 2008 festival appearances in Reading / Leeds Lock-Up tent put him firmly in the public eye. Here he earned the attention and support of Radio 1 DJs Steve Lamacq &amp;amp; Mike Davies, as well as catching the eye of several of the gathered American punk big wigs, which would eventually lead him to a place on Epitaph Records for his US releases.
A driving honesty and compelling delivery, on top of thousands of shows worth of experience, make Frank Turner an incredible live act. Tickets go on sale Wed 16th June from all outlets.

<title>BILLY BRAGG - 4 Dec 10</title>
<link>http://www.lancashiretickets.com/eventinfo/306/BILLY-BRAGG</link>
<description>Billy Bragg was recently described by The Times newspaper as a national treasure. In the two decades of his career Bragg has certainly become perhaps, the most stalwart guardian of the radical dissenting tradition that stretches back over centuries of the country's political, cultural and social history.
Bragg was born in December 1957. He was thus 19 years old when punk made its indelible contribution to English popular culture, in 1977. Bragg's own particular contribution was to form a band called Riff Raff, which released a series of indie seven-inch singles including the wonderfully titled I Wanna Be a Cosmonaut. Riff Raff eventually split in 1981.
Bragg then briefly joined a tank regiment of the British Army before buying his way out with what he later described as the most wisely spent 175 of his life.
Armed with a guitar, amplifier and voice Bragg launched himself on a solo musical career, ready at a moments notice to fill in as support for almost any act.
His songs are full of passion, anger and wit, with a stark strummed electric guitar and even starker vocals with a keen sense of melody and deeply humane lyrics; a one man Clash.
Releases include Life's a Riot with Spy Vs. Spy which hit the UK Top 30 in early 1984. The album's opening track, The Milkman of Human Kindness, is infused with genuine insight and humour, as well as a sustained and personal commitment to political and humanitarian issues.
His second album, Brewing Up with Billy Bragg (1984), opened with the fierce It Says Here, a strident song of political solidarity. The album went Top 20 in the UK.
Bragg's third album, Talking with the Taxman About Poetry, was released in September 1986. It was his most successful and accomplished release to date, spawning a hit single, Levi Stubbs' Tears, as well as Greetings to the New Brunette, a collaboration with The Smiths guitarist, Johnny Marr. The album was a Top 10 hit.
In September 1988, Bragg released his fourth album, Workers Playtime. More focused on matters of the heart than political issues, the album also saw Bragg move away from the sparse arrangements that had characterised his earlier work. The public approved the album was a Top 20 hit in the UK.
Bragg, however, entered the Nineties with his most political work to date. The Internationale mini-album, released in May 1990, included such tracks as The Marching Song of the Convent Battalions, Nicaraguita and The Red Flag.
The following year, 1991, Bragg issued the critically acclaimed Don't Try This at Home, which reached number eight in the UK chart. With musical contributions from such stellar talents as Johnny Marr and, from REM, Peter Buck and Michael Stipe, the album ranged in themes from personal tragedies to a strident condemnation of racists and football hooligans. Among the songs was the hit single, Sexuality.
Bragg then took time out to concentrate on his family. When he did return, in 1996, the resulting William Bloke album showed Bragg balancing his political and personal commitments, an unsentimental examination of his life and values. The album also marked a return to the stripped-down Bragg, often no more than Billy and his guitar. William Bloke, a Top 20 hit, was to be the last album of Braggs own songs in the Nineties. What followed next, however, was an extraordinary and unexpected project.
Woody Guthrie was the dean of American folk artists, the author of such classics as This Land is Your Land, Pastures of Plenty, Deportees, I Aint Got No Home In This World Any More and Rueben James. His giant influence on the entire course of American popular music, not least Bob Dylan's acknowledgement of his debt to Guthrie, made him one of the seminal artists of the 20th Century. At the time of his death, in 1967, however, Guthrie left behind some 2500 unfinished songs, the lyrics to which were belatedly discovered many years later in the archives.
Guthries daughter, Nora, first became aware of Billy Bragg in 1992, when he performed at New York Citys Summerstage birthday celebration for Woody.
Nora Guthrie decided that Bragg was the perfect candidate to set new music to the unrecorded Woody Guthrie lyrics. There was no record of any music being written, thus Bragg was given the task of reinventing original Woody Guthrie songs. The lyrics about New York City streets, film star idols, drinking, loving, dying and even spaceships - were specifically chosen because they presented a completely different aspect to Woody Guthries public persona. Braggs role was to provide the musical platform for a previously unexplored Guthrie.
The result was Mermaid Avenue, released in 1998. Bragg's collaborators on the project were American alt-country rockers, Wilco. Recordings began in Wilco's hometown of Chicago and then in Dublin, where English fiddler Eliza Carthy and bluesman Corey Harris made their contributions. Natalie Merchant also added her talents when Bragg was finishing the recordings in Boston.
So much material was recorded during those sessions that Mermaid Avenue Volume II was issued two years later, in 2000. Both albums were nominated for Grammy Awards.
Before the release of that second album, however, Bragg had returned to the road, playing a 1999 UK tour fronting Billy Bragg &amp;amp; The Blokes. Among the band members was the legendary Ian McLagan, the keyboards player with the Small Faces and its later Rod Stewart incarnation, The Faces. The other musicians in The Blokes were Ben Mandelson (lap steel guitar); Lu Edmonds (electric guitar and vocals); Martyn Barker (drums); and Simon Edwards (bass).
The tour worked so well it was inevitable that The Blokes would be a permanent band, playing with Bragg in the U.S. and the rest of Europe.
Just before the last UK General Election, in June 2001, Bragg launched www.votedorset.net, a tactical voting campaign to unseat the Conservative MP in Bragg's Dorset constituency (where he now resides). Bragg also turned his attention to campaigning for reform of the House of Lords the UK's second chamber by writing and publishing A Genuine Expression of the Will of the People, a political pamphlet on the subject. It is available in electronic form from the votedorset website.
Running concurrently with all this political activity, however, Bragg was also working with The Blokes on his new album England, Half English. The album, which explored Braggs notions about identity and Englishness, was released on Monday 4th March, 2002 by sheer coincidence the precise 20th anniversary of Braggs first-ever solo gig, the Sociology Disco at North London Polytechnic on 4th March 1982.
On the 6th October Billy Bragg celebrated his long career with a double-CD retrospective called Must I Paint You A Picture? The album features 40 of the tracks that have defined his music and approach through the years.
Billy released the single 'We Laughed' with Rosetta Life, a song Billy wrote with patients facing life-threatening illness, as part of the Rosetta Requiem project. It is still from Billy's website.

Famous hits like Fools Gold, I Am The Resurrection and I Wanna Be Adored are as recognisable now as were the heyday of Madchester and the Hacienda, the cultural icons from which the original band were born.
